Sir:-
In compliance with the instructions contained in
your despatch No.273 (W.243250/16) of December 4th
last, I have made enquiries of the Japanese Government
as to what information they possessed respecting the
activities in China of the Basel Mission; and I have
now the honour to transmit herewith a translation of
Viscount Motono's reply, to the effect that the
Japanese Government at present possess no information
pointing to any effective anti-Ally campaign in China
on the part of this Mission.
A copy of this despatch has been sent to His
Majesty's Chargé d'Affaires in Peking.
